The ABYC Foundation's Educator of the Year Award honors an outstanding instructor who is shaping future marine service technicians. Candidates teach marine service technology for recreational boats in a high school, post-secondary school, or industry wide.

Congratulations to the 2023 Winner!
Freddie Fowler, Manatee Technical College
Freddie Fowler, a marine service technology instructor from Manatee Technical College, has been recognized by the ABYC Foundation as 2023 Educator of the Year. Fowler was nominated for this award by Doug Wagner, Director of Manatee College. “Under the instruction of Freddie Fowler, the Marine Service Technologies program has record enrollments, new and renewed partnerships with, Yamaha, Mercury and Suzuki,” said Wagner in his nomination. “The students upon graduation are having many locations to choose from for their careers. Freddie came from industry and is now giving back to the educational profession as a way to educate the future employees in this area.”
The Educator of the Year award intends to honor extraordinary marine service technology instructors from across the industry. "Freddie's repeated nominations by both students and the administration highlight the remarkable influence of his teaching," Sarah Devlin of the ABYC Foundation says. "Manatee Technical College serves as an exemplary model, showcasing a program that successfully aligns its curriculum with job opportunities at the local, state, and national levels."
As the 2023 ABYC Foundation Educator of the Year, Fowler receives an engraved clock and a free ABYC professional-level certification class.
